The Eating Well Cookbook: Favorite Recipes from Eating Well, the Magazine of Food & Health
Published in Hardcover by Eating Well Book (April, 1995)
Authors: Rux Martin, Patricia Jamieson, Elizabeth Hiser, and Magazine of Food and Health
Average review score:

Eat Well from Eating Well
This is one of the best cookbooks I've ever used. I never realized before that you could cook gourmet food that was low in calories and actually tasted good. I can't believe this book is out of print. I have cooked nearly everything in it and was anxious to give it to some of my friends. I keep hoping there is a chance that they will have a new printing.

Delicious Low-Fat Recipes
Eating Well Magazine was a one-of-a-kind: Full of delicious recipes and nutritional articles that were up-to-date and valuable. Now that the magazine is no longer in existence, the Eating Well cookbooks are essential volumes of the collected recipes. Having been a subscriber for seven years, I can honestly say that I have never cooked something from Eating Well that wasn't delicious and low-fat. The recipes vary in their ease (this is not a cooking made simple book) but not in their quality. This book presents dishes from all categories of cooking, from salads and soups to meat and poulty, pasta, sauces, desserts, etc. When I am looking for a new recipe, this book (and the New Eating Well book that is the companion volume) is the first off of the shelf and I often don't have to look further. I highly recommend it.

Eclipse of the Self: The Development of Heidegger's Concept of Authenticity
Published in Paperback by Ohio Univ Pr (Txt) (December, 1986)
Author: Michael E. Zimmerman
Average review score:

Authentic and Inauthentic Modes of Being
The book is Zimmerman's essay on Martin Heidegger's concept of authenticity. It deals with Heidegger's thought from _Being and Time_ to his later "overcoming" of philosophy in his thinking. The book explains how Heidegger achieved his concept of authenticity (especially that expressed in B&T) from the works of Kierkegaard and Nietzsche. Further, Heidegger's relationships to National Socialism and the application of his ideas to theology are explored. The author begins with the early Heidegger, who began as a Catholic theologian, as he explains the relationship of Heidegger's authenticity in B&T to religion. The author then explores Heidegger's notion of "everydayness" and how this relates to inauthentic existence. In addition, Heidegger's notion of an authentic "being-towards-death" is looked at. "World historical heroism" is examined as revealed through Nietzsche's character of the Overman, and Heidegger's political activities in the Nazi party are explained in terms of "voluntarism". The role of technology and its relationship to inauthentic ways of being is dealt with. Finally, Heidegger's late thought is examined through the concept of "Ereignis" and "releasement". This is related to the Zen mysticism and the Christian mysticism of Meister Eckhart.

a thorough and far-reaching study
A fine examination of the development of Heidegger's thinking on authenticity.

A very good introductory work to Heidegger.

Electronic Failure Analysis Handbook
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Professional (28 February, 1999)
Author: Perry L. Martin
Average review score:

The "Bible" in Failure Analysis
After I read this book, I passed it to my Engineers, and afterwhich I never have a chance to access it anymore, as both my Engineers just won't let go!

This is indeed "THE BIBLE" for Failure Analysis. It covers most of the techniques needed for each type of FA, like X-ray imaging, SAM, Thermal imaging, Metallography, Chemical Characterization, SEM/EDX, and Electronic Failures. The best of it all is that in Part 2, it is organized in terms of equipment techniques; in part 3, it is organized in terms of products, like PCB, PCBA, connection, component, etc. As such it give you the flexibility either go to Part 2 and learn about how and what types of failure analysis a particular equipment can perform, or go to Part 3 and find out the sequence of which equipments is to used first for a particular failure mode.

However, I need to highlight that the though there are tons of photos in the book, the quality of the photos need lots of improvement. Many a times, it takes me long time to figure out what's in the photos. Maybe some highlights or markings at the particular spot of interest in the comparison of the photos would help some novice readers to appreciate better

GOOD STUFF!
The best thing I can say about this book is that I use it every day. Well organized and easy to use. Well done

Essential buy for elephant lovers
This is a magnificent book. I first saw it at my local library. I fell in love with it and ordered a copy for my home library. It is a magnificently produced compendium about elephant knowledge and lore that is probably unique for being contained in one volume. And--you can't beat the price for such a beautiful book. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Irish love stories
I love books with misc magical love stories. Even though there were no fairies to speak of - there was alot of magic in each story to keep me bound to this book. Each tale was a good as the one before it. I only wished there were four additional stories. I love this book! It was short, yet, oh, so very sweet.

Loved it
What a wonderful little collection! Even if you generally don't care for romance novels because they are slow reads, you'll love this book. The stories are fairly short (about 100 pages each). There is no offensive subject matter (like rape or excessively foul language). The romances are each distinctly different, my personal favorite was "Green Willow." I hope to see another set like this soon!

The End of "Christian Psychology"
Published in Paperback by Eastgate Pub (November, 1997)
Authors: Martin Bobgan and Deidre Bobgan
Average review score:

Great Book on Psychology's harm on Christianity
This book shows how Psychology does not satisfy even the basic requirements of science yet it is accepted as if it were. It also explains the various absurd teachings that "Christian" psychologists are choosing from. Psychology is such a non-science that anyone can take just about any position and still practice psychology from those assumptions. Urges Christians to outright reject psychology in their lives.

Essential Facts and Insights
No one who has any interest in psychology (for self help or help of others or professionally)can ignore the facts presented here. The truth is that psychology of whatever sort is bankrupt of true solutons to human problems. Don't think otherwise until you have read this and fully dealt wtih the facts of research, mostly from psychologists themselves.

Tremendous and essential book!

This was a cool book to read.
Hi its me again. If you looked at the reviews for tankworld imthere too.Mutants were a nice touch. I loved the long journey thatoccupied most of this book. What was the background of the book was weird. Fighting over remains of water and who they fought against. The people who come to Zacs aid at the end are familiar people. Read and find out!

excellent book[nuf said]
Pretty good book. Giant pigs and redneck hillbillies toting shotguns make for good book to read. The part at the near end with Zac and the hacksaw was a nice addition to this wonderful book. The grossest part was when they described the Sirs bathroom and it was described well if not gross. Read this book for an entertaining time.

Eric Fischl : 1970 - 2000
Published in Hardcover by The Monacelli Press (18 December, 2000)
Authors: Eric Fischl, Robert Enright, Steve Martin, and Arthur Coleman Danto
Average review score:

Great book on Fischl, but.........
This is what a book on an artist should be, lots of nice big images, early to current work(presented chronologically) and not too much BS, except for an essay written by Steve Martin(yes the comedian).

.........But the more I look at the book, the more I think Fischl has quality control issues. The more I look at it, the more bad paintings I notice. Don't get me wrong, this is a great book and Fischl has done some great paintings, but the more you look at this book, the more you notice how bad he can be at times-quality control. Some of the paintings should have never left the studio except in a dumpster but when your getting as much money as he gets for work.................... I imagine its hard not to think everything you make is great, when you get the "status" he has as an artist.

but this isn't an art critique, this is a great book on a well know contemporary artist. If you like Fischl, this is the book to get and it may give you more insight then you want, if you have any asthetic sensibilities.

Ernst and Young's Personal Financial Planning Guide

Ernst & Young's Personal Financial Planning Guide - 3rd Edit
As a tax professional and tax educator, I recognized many years ago that tax & financial illiteracy is a major problem amongst taxpayers. For example, consider: 1. how many wage-earners do not even understand all the deductions posted on their pay statements -- or that net pay is not the same as taxable income; or 2. how many people do not understand that the basic tax equation is "tax liability = tax base x tax rate" -- and that tax rate alone is not enough information to calculate one's tax liability; or 3. how many people think capital gains taxes paid are a "bad thing" -- when in fact, they are frequently a "subsidy" provided to wealthier taxpayers at the expense of wage-earners; or 4. how many people are eligible for some form of deferred compensation [401(k)plan, 403(b) plan etc] but they either do not participate or do not participate fully; etc, etc, etc.

In an effort to promote "Basic Tax Literacy," I highly recommend the EY-PFP Guide as a highly accessible & understandable guide for teens and above. This book makes a wonderful gift for all life events -- coming of age ceremonies, graduations, marriage, birth of child, divorce, mid-life crisis, pre-retirement, retirement. It could even serve as a textbook for certain courses and seminars.

E&Y Personal Financial Planning Guide(3rd ed.)- a good tool
This 3rd edition is a useful tool for people who are either starting to understand personal financial planning or those who have years of practical experience but want the latest information available. Complex concepts are explained clearly and concisely. There are no major gaps in the information provided. The book is well organized. Part II which uses a life-event approach to financial planning will be most helpful for people beginning to understand personal financial planning or facing a major life-event.

I enjoyed reading the book and found it filled with exactly the information I was seeking to improve my own personal financial planning. The format was very understandable and will allow me to continue using the book as a reference.
